Coors Light Citrus Radler Review

Name: Coors Light Grapefruit Radler
Style: Radler
ABV: 4.2%
IBUs: N/A

Earlier on I was at the store when I noticed a brand new offering from Coors and it was being sold for a very reasonable price. I'm of course talking about Coors Light Citrus Radler, a beer which, according to Beer Advocate, was released not too long ago. In fact, at the time of writing this, there are only 26 ratings for the said beer.

Normally I don't buy anything Coors related but this was on sale for $1.29 at the store and since I'm going through as many summer beers as possible, I figured this would be a good beer to review. In fact despite the fact it's from Coors, I'm always eager to see what they come up with because I follow the philosophy that even a broken clock is wrong twice a day. However, upon arriving home, I noticed that on the back of the can that it says this is "Coors Light with a blend of natural citrus flavors."

Oh boy, I've got a really bad feeling about this....

Appearance - Clear pale yellow color with a mild amount of visible carbonation. The head has some decent retention but there's nothing in terms of lacing

Aroma - It's 7-Up....no seriously, I'm not joking. You've got the lemon-lime aroma with maybe a bit of alcoholic booziness. It's like you just poured a can of yellow colored 7-Up into my glass

Taste - Light Lemon-lime notes that almost immediately fades to a light barley flavor backed up by some moderate cereal grain notes and light pale malts. The aftertaste is very dry and practically non-existent. It's really too bad that the flavor isn't as robust as the nose.

Remember in my last post when I said Leinie's Summer Shandy would taste great after a 20 mile bike ride. Well, if you gave this to me after a 20 mile bike ride, I would ask that you fetch me a Summer Shandy instead because it somehow manages to have lack both a decent taste and refreshing qualities that I look for in a shandy.

The big problem with this beer isn't that it has an offensive flavor, but more because it has little flavor to speak of. In fact, I've had cheap 99 cent beers before that, while have tasted awful, had more complex flavors than this. I feel that, even by paying only $1.29, I still feel like I paid too much for this beer. As such, if you're looking for an awesome summer beer, look elsewhere.

Blue Moon Belgian White Review

Name: Blue Moon Belgian White
Style: Witbier
ABV: 5.4%

It's taken me this long to review Blue Moon Belgian White? Yeah, I still don't quite understand it myself but when I see a Blue Moon Seasonal Sampler on sale, I cannot pass up that offer. This'll be the first beer in my Blue Moon series and I've decided to start off with the original Belgian White.

What can be said about Belgian White? Well next to Coors, Budweiser & Miller, it is one of the most widely recognized beers in America and can be found everywhere in the country. I've also had this beer at Olive Garden a few times because it's usually the only thing I consider to be decent on tap.

Belgian White pours a cloudy yellow color with a foamy white head. The lacing is on the sparse side and I'm not getting any visible carbonation.

In the aroma, I'm getting potent orange peel notes, some malted wheat, a bit of berry sweetness, along with some pale malts to round things off.

Flavor-wise, the orange peel & berry sweetness up front are fairly mild compared to the malted wheat and pale malt in the back, which are also relatively tame. The aftertaste is a light mix of malted wheat and orange peel sweetness.

Even though the flavor leaves something more to be desired, this is not a bad beer. When you take into consideration that this is a Miller-Coors Product, it's actually quite good plus there is none of that grainy adjunct flavor in here either which is a plus in my book. The best way to describe this beer is that it's not perfect, but even a broken clock is wrong twice a day.

Molson XXX Review

Name: Molson XXX
Style: Malt Liquor
ABV: 7.3%

When I picked this up as part of a mix-a-six, I wasn't really sure what to expect. On the front it says "Super Premium Beer" with a fairly high ABV of 7.3%. I figured it was Molson's answer to Bud Light Platinum. Upon looking this up, I discovered that I had purchased a Malt Liquor. You really don't see them in 12 oz. bottles much with the slight exception of Mickey's, which come in those 8 oz. ”Grenade” bottles.

Aside from the name & information above, I really don't have other information about this beer, so let's dive right in shall we?

Molson XXX pours a clear pale yellow color with a filmy head and a high amount of visible carbonation. In terms of lacing, there isn't anything here.

The nose starts off with a very powerful boozy smell with some cereal grains, pale malts, cardboard, grassiness and some skunk. Well, it for sure smells like a malt liquor!

The flavor is a cross between burnt cardboard, pale malts, booziness, grassiness and skunkiness (If it wasn't a word before, it is now!). Oh dear god, it's like they took the boozy & skunky scents and made it into a flavor!

The body is fairly light and crisp but the carbonation is very strong and it really doesn't matter much at this point.

If there is a beer underworld, then this deserves to be cast down into the furthest depths. This is probably the worst thing to come out of Canada since Justin Bieber and that's saying alot.  I've came up with a motto for Molson XXX in the event it is horrible and it is very much so. So here it is:

Molson XXX, it SuXXX.
